  • Remove all leaves below the first flower cluster. They only block airflow and invite disease.
  • Pinch out suckers weekly. The suckers grow in the joint between the main stem and a leaf branch. On determinate varieties, remove suckers below the first flower cluster; above it, leave one or two to keep the plant productive.
  • Keep one strong leader per hole. Two stems per hole means half the airflow and twice the shading.
